“The resolution of disputes and reconciliation between Malagasy people, especially with members of political parties affiliated with former leaders, which were recently organized in Ambovombe,” were among the advances reported by Colonel Michaël Randrianirina during his interview with Cyril Ramaphosa, the Refoundation presidency indicated in a statement. On Saturday, just before his departure for South Africa, the Head of State was at the heart of a “filongoa” ceremony with the opposition leader and Vice-President of the National Assembly, Philobert Milavonjy, and former deputy Jean Michel Henri, both members of the Isika Rehetra Miaraka amin’i Andry Rajoelina (Irmar) movement.
The Ambovombe ceremony was an opportunity for Colonel Michaël Randrianirina and Philobert Milavonjy to call for overcoming political divisions and prioritizing unity and cohesion for the development of Madagascar. “Political debates remain, but politics should no longer constitute a source of division,” the presidency emphasized, noting that “the opposition leader will remain in the opposition and will continue to be part of the Irmar movement.” However, the idea behind the initiative in Ambovombe is to show both the Androy region and all of Madagascar that “friendship and fraternity are possible beyond political positions.”
In addition to the reconciliation process, the President of the Refoundation also confided to the South African President that “the Refoundation regime is currently conducting political consultations that will lead to elections,” and that “the holding of the national youth consultation has made it possible to produce resolutions submitted to the Council of Christian Churches in Madagascar (FFKM),” which is in charge of organizing the national consultation. The FFKM has also already been provided with a headquarters, he added. He also recalled that the first electoral consultation should indeed take place in July 2027, in accordance with the schedule provided by the Refoundation program.
