Elinah, what is the main lesson you have learned from this international experience?
The main lesson I have learned is that nothing is easy at this level and that complete preparation is required. At the World Cup, all opponents have qualities and display a high level. Therefore, we cannot rely solely on our individual skills. This competition made me realize the importance of hard work, discipline, and preparation before a major event.
How did you find the level of play in Wuhan?
The level was truly different. The pace was much higher, and the players were very strong both technically and physically. We had to stay focused from start to finish, as the slightest mistake could be immediately punished. This experience allowed us to measure the path we still have to travel to compete more effectively with the major nations.
In your opinion, what did the Ankoay lack during this World Cup, both individually and collectively?
For me, what we mainly lacked was preparation. We wanted to do well and had the necessary qualities, but against teams of this level, you must arrive with much more advanced and consistent preparation. Personally, I think my 2-point shooting percentage was not good enough. It is an aspect of my game that I still need to work on to be more effective in the future.
You were injured in the knee during the competition. How are you doing now?
Yes, I injured my knee against Spain. For the moment, I prefer to remain cautious because I cannot yet give a definitive answer about my condition. It is something that is weighing on my mind.
Can this experience with the U23 Ankoay be an important step for the development of Malagasy women’s basketball?
Yes. Before us, more experienced players have already held the country’s colors high in Africa and showed us the way. This participation in the World Cup allows us to gain more experience and understand the demands of the very high level.
Yes, my idol is Kelsey Plum. To the young people, I advise them to play sports, work hard, and above all, never be afraid to pursue their dreams.
