MADAGASCAR HORIZON 2035 – Women propose a vision for the future

Twelve Malagasy women have proposed a collective vision for the Madagascar of tomorrow. Following several months of reflection and collaborative workshops, they have unveiled the “Madagascar Vision 2035” Manifesto, a collective ambition for the future of the Great Island.

“The decision to bring only women together is not based on a logic of exclusion. It responds to a reality: women are present at the heart of families, communities, businesses, and territories, but remain underrepresented in spaces where the country’s future is imagined,” according to a press release issued during the launch of this Manifesto on July 1st.

Major Projects

The Manifesto proposes seven major structural projects. It calls for making the Malagasy language a true language of instruction, knowledge creation, and professional opportunity; reducing dependence on imported medicines by half by 2035 and expanding health coverage through digital innovation; guaranteeing progressive access to electricity, water, and clean cooking in every commune by 2035; evolving the judicial system toward an approach more centered on prevention, mental health, and the protection of vulnerable people; ensuring nine out of ten children master reading by the end of primary school while reconciling schools with Malagasy culture; strengthening decentralization, local governance, and the redistribution of wealth from natural resources; and developing community nutrition, the transmission and leadership of young women, and the revival of local sectors such as textiles.

The launch of the Manifesto serves as the starting point for an open dialogue with public institutions, local authorities, the private sector, universities, civil society, international partners, and the diaspora.
