Half a century of dedication. Clarisse Bakoly Harisoa Randrianilana, former national team member and former president of the Madagascar Volleyball Federation, is celebrating 50 years in the sport this year. The former head of the national body, who served from 2005 to 2015, will organize a reunion tournament on September 5th and 6th at the Ankatso gymnasium, under the high patronage of the President of the Refoundation of the Republic.
The tournament will feature various categories and teams from different regions. “The AS Port Toamasina club will participate alongside GNVB, Cosfa, and a civilian team composed mainly of former AS Aro players in the veterans’ category,” announced Clarisse Randrianilana. In the men’s and women’s first division categories, participants will include GNVB, ASI, Cosfa, Squad, and the former players of AS Star.
Three teams will also compete in the U14 girls’ category: CRJS Toamasina, the reigning national champion, GNVB, and S2CTR. Clarisse Randrianilana began her volleyball career in 1975 at the AFA Ambohimanoro club. She won gold medals at the 1985 All-Africa Games in Mauritius, the 1983 Pan-African Games in Libya, and the 2nd Indian Ocean Island Games in Mauritius in 1982. She played for various clubs including ASCLA, AS Aro Antsirabe, AJEM Mahajanga, AS BNI, ASSUM Antananarivo, and most recently, the Mamans club in Toamasina. “Even though I am no longer a player or an official, I am still active in the field, and I founded the Kolo Volley school in 2024,” the former international player stated.
