The seventeenth death linked to Mpox has been recorded in Toamasina. The victim was a 30-year-old woman residing in the city. The announcement was made on July 8 by Professor Diavolana Köcher Andrianarimanana from the Public Health Emergency Operations Center (COUSP) during the presentation of the epidemiological report on the evolution of Mpox in the country.
The epidemiological situation of Mpox in Madagascar continues to evolve. According to the latest report covering the period from December 18, 2025, to July 8, 2026, 4,202 suspected cases have been reported across the country. Of these, 2,701 have been confirmed after analysis, representing a positivity rate of 72.06%. A total of 1,889 patients have recovered, while 17 deaths related to the disease have been recorded. Health authorities specify that 3,749 samples have been tested since the beginning of the outbreak.
“We encourage vulnerable children, pregnant women, people living with HIV, as well as individuals suffering from chronic illnesses such as diabetes or kidney disease, to remain vigilant. We also invite the entire population to go to health facilities offering vaccination, as this vaccine is available in the country,” stated Professor Diavolana Köcher Andrianarimanana of the COUSP.
