Madagascar’s first wind farm is now operational in Tolagnaro. With 19 wind turbines, it brings the capacity of the QMM hybrid solar-wind power plant to 30 MW.
Developed by QIT Madagascar Minerals (QMM) in partnership with CrossBoundary Energy (CBE), the wind farm features nineteen turbines with an installed capacity of 16 MW. Its commissioning, formalized in July 2026, strengthens the renewable energy production infrastructure in the Anôsy region.
This new installation complements the QMM solar plant, which began producing electricity in 2023. Combined with the 16 MW from the wind farm, the site now forms a 30 MW hybrid solar-wind facility. To manage intermittency, the site is equipped with a 16 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).
The electricity produced covers the majority of the operational needs of the QMM mining site, with a portion fed into the local Jirama grid to support households and businesses in Fort-Dauphin. This project is part of QMM’s “Sustainable Mine” program, aimed at reducing carbon emissions while boosting local energy supply and economic development in the Anôsy region.
