The Jeunes Chrétiens Basketteurs d’Antananarivo (JCBA) club is reaping the rewards of its investments. The national championship title won by the U20 boys’ team last Sunday in Fianarantsoa illustrates this success.
With 280 registered members, both girls and boys, the JCBA is among the most structured basketball clubs in Madagascar. The results achieved over the last decade show that the leadership made the right choice by focusing on training. They use a policy of continuity and succession as the pillars of their project.
The club, now in its 26th year, covers all age categories from U10 to U20, as well as N1B men’s, N1A women’s, and veteran categories. Under the presidency of Aina Zo Rambeloson, the priority remains sporting excellence: winning more national titles by relying on their own youth. External recruitment is limited to exceptional cases, as internal training is the true hallmark of the JCBA.
Tojo Hery Rasamoelina, coach and founding member, notes that this U20 title is a continuation of the project launched with the creation of youth categories: “Our goal was to prepare the next generation of basketball players.”
The club’s annual operating budget ranges from 20 to 25 million ariary, covering court rentals, coaching fees, and competition expenses. To fund these, the JCBA relies on sponsors, parental contributions, and various fundraising activities. As Aina Zo Rambeloson summarizes, “The JCBA is above all a school of life. We train basketball players, but above all, responsible men and women.”
