AUDIOVISUAL – The Coalition of Radios presents an alarming situation

The General Assembly of the Coalition of Radios Madagascar was held over two days in Antaninarenina. Established in 2014, this organization works for the promotion of peace, security, and human rights. Its mission also includes capacity building and providing support to member radio stations across the country.

Participants assessed the difficulties faced by radio stations and defined strategies to enable the Coalition to address them.

“Among the main difficulties highlighted are the obsolescence and frequent breakdowns of technical equipment, particularly transmitters. Many radio stations face this problem and struggle to replace these materials, which are often imported and expensive. Low advertising revenue also hinders the development of these stations, as does the shortage of qualified personnel, especially technicians and professional journalists. The decrease in the number of advertisers further reduces the financial resources of the radio stations, while competition from social media increasingly weighs on their audience,” stated Mbolatiana Raveloarimisa, Executive Secretary of the Coalition of Radios Madagascar.

Information processing continues to face numerous challenges in Madagascar. “It is precisely to address these difficulties that the Coalition of Radios for Peace exists. It aims to strengthen the skills of radio stations and improve the quality of the content they produce,” explained Mbolatiana Raveloarimisa.

The organization intends, in particular, to strengthen its advocacy with the authorities to improve the operating conditions of radio stations and to guarantee better quality information for the Malagasy public.

The Coalition currently includes 98 radio stations spread across all regions of Madagascar.
