Meteorology: Temperatures to rise up to 36°C this week, with thunderstorms expected in the coming days

Winter is gradually coming to an end in Madagascar. Temperatures are starting to rise, with maximums potentially reaching 36°C this week in certain regions. This change is accompanied by the gradual return of rain and thunderstorms, characteristic of the transition period toward the hot season.

This week, a notable increase in maximum temperatures is expected in the Central Highlands, as well as in the central, eastern, and southeastern parts of the country. According to weather forecasts, temperatures are expected to range between 10 and 23°C in the morning, and 20 to 36°C in the afternoon. However, this trend does not mean that the cool weather has completely disappeared. According to Lahatra Mampionona, a technician at the Meteorological Forecasting Center, nights and early morning hours may remain cool, while the heat becomes more pronounced during the day.

“During this transition period, weather conditions are variable. It can still be cool, especially at night and early in the morning, but maximum temperatures will gradually increase during the day,” the technician explains. “We are already starting to feel the temperatures characteristic of the hot season,” he adds.

This rise in temperatures is also expected to favor the gradual development of rain and thunderstorm phenomena. Over the next three days, rainfall is expected to increase in the Central Highlands and in certain areas of the East, according to weather forecasts. These precipitations correspond to transition rains, which can appear sporadically and be accompanied by thunderstorms. “Rain is expected in the Highlands over the next three days. These are transition rains,” the technician specifies.

Isolated thundery showers are also possible in the central regions, the center-west, and the south of the country at the beginning and end of the week. Hail may also occur locally, particularly in high-altitude areas and near relief features. On the northeast coast, intermittent rain is expected. A warning regarding strengthening winds also concerns the southern coasts.
