National Mourning: Various shows postponed, some concerts cancelled with refunds

A “Manala azy vita bac” celebration unlike any other. The national day of mourning on July 24, decreed by the authorities, has led to the cancellation and postponement of numerous shows and cabarets scheduled for this Friday. Many event organizers have revised their programming to comply with this decision, while expressing their solidarity with the bereaved families.

Most organizers appear confused following the official decision on national mourning, but state that they understand it. The band AmbondronA announced the cancellation of its concert. In a statement published on its page this Thursday, the group specified that, as of now, no postponement of this show—which had been sold out for several days—is feasible due to scheduling constraints. They announced that tickets will be fully refunded, with details to be communicated shortly.

Other events, however, have been rescheduled. The “Manala azy Vita Bac” show with Olombelo Ricky, initially planned for this Friday at Antsahamanitra, is postponed to the afternoon of August 1st. Organizers explained that they made this decision “so that the event can take place in a more serene context,” given the significant loss of life and the emotion stirred across the country. Tickets already sold remain valid.

The “Garigany Total Vita Bac” show, scheduled for the evening of July 24 at the Barea Stadium, will finally be held on August 23 at 2:00 PM. According to the General Manager of Tri7 Event, Michel Razakarivelo, this time was chosen to ensure the safety of the spectators. The cabaret featuring Lolo sy ny Tariny with Fara Gloum has also been postponed to August 7 at 8:00 PM, still at Le Pavé. According to the organizer, all arrangements and tickets already sold remain valid, even with the one-month delay.

Furthermore, organizers highlighted the financial repercussions of this decision. According to them, significant investments have already been made, particularly in communication and advertising, but the official decision must be respected. They also indicated that refunds pose a major challenge, as costs already incurred are difficult to recover.

While the scheduled artists remain unchanged, several professionals in the sector are now questioning the maintenance of events planned for August, in a context still marked by uncertainty due to insecurity. They believe that strengthening security measures could be an alternative if the situation were to persist.
