CONFERENCE – Youth in the Era of AI under Discussion

“Youth Empowerment in the Era of AI” was the theme of an international talk show organized on Thursday by the Swiss German University, a private institution based in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The discussions focused on the role and responsibility of youth in a world profoundly transformed by AI. The bilingual event brought together several speakers to address the challenges faced by the new generation in a global environment marked by uncertainty. Retired General Richard Rakotonirina, former Minister of National Defense of Madagascar, was one of the key speakers.

Former Minister Rakotonirina provided a strategic analysis of the ongoing shifts. The goal of the exchange was to define a path on “how to train young people capable of inhabiting a world that institutions, skills, and sometimes even imagination can no longer keep up with.” The retired general officer reflected on the evolution of the global context.

The world described during the conference is no longer just “VUCA” (volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous). It has become “BANI”—an environment characterized by the brittleness of systems, anxiety, non-linearity, and incomprehensibility—a context in which young people must learn to navigate without necessarily having stable benchmarks.

Artificial intelligence now occupies a central place in this transformation. Presented as much more than a simple technological tool, AI has also become a matter of power and competition. The conference notably addressed its effects on the world of work, with the automation of certain activities and the prospect of a profound transformation of jobs, including those involving judgment. Faced with these changes, the speakers emphasized the necessity of preparing the youth to adapt.
