GOVERNMENT – Prime Minister defends a positive track record

Measurable results and remaining challenges. Six months of action: roads, energy, production, and essential services were at the heart of the report presented by Prime Minister Mamitiana Rajaonarison on TVM.

Madagascar’s economy is re-estimated to grow by 4.1% in 2026, up from 3.8% in the Rectified Finance Law. This figure, while still below the 5.2% target, was one of the key elements presented by Prime Minister Mamitiana Rajaonarison during a live broadcast on the national channel, TVM, this Sunday, October 4.

Beyond macroeconomic indicators, the report highlights tangible results in sectors directly impacting daily life. Regarding infrastructure, 400 km of roads have been rehabilitated and 45 km of new roads constructed, including significant progress on the RN13 and RNT12A. The expansion of the Port of Toamasina has reached 95% completion.

Energy remains a priority, with 35.5 MW of generators installed across 21 regions and 31.5 MW of capacity recovered in Antananarivo. Solar energy development continues, with 8.2 MW already integrated into the grid and 150 MW planned by the end of 2027. Over 1.3 million people have gained new access to electricity.

In the agricultural sector, the government distributed 23,500 tons of fertilizer and over 1,000 tons of seeds, alongside equipment such as tractors and pumps. Furthermore, the ‘One District, One Factory’ (ODOF) program has 23 operational units out of 89 planned.

Essential services also saw progress: 770,256 additional people now have access to drinking water, 4,848 teachers and staff were recruited, and 80 basic health centers were constructed. Public security efforts led to 3,360 arrests and the seizure of 271 kg of drugs.

The Prime Minister acknowledged that while progress has been made, the work is not finished. Growth remains below the target, and several projects, including the ODOF units, require further revitalization in the coming period.
