JUSTICE – Valéry Ramonjavelo and Richard Ravalomanana among 33 defendants in the Boeing 777 case on trial at the Antananarivo Anti-Corruption Pole

The Anti-Corruption Pole (PAC) has released the list of 33 individuals and entities prosecuted in the case of the Boeing 777 aircraft delivered to Iran in July 2025. Among the prominent figures appearing in court are the former Minister of Transport and Meteorology, Valéry Ramonjavelo, and the former President of the Senate, retired General Richard Ravalomanana. According to the PAC, the public hearing is scheduled to open at 9:00 AM.

Valéry Ramonjavelo was placed in pre-trial detention on March 7, 2026. He had been dismissed from his post at the end of July 2025, following the international repercussions of this case, before being subjected to a travel ban and subsequently incarcerated in early March.

For his part, retired General Richard Ravalomanana is already serving a ten-year sentence of forced labor at the Imerintsiatosika prison. This sentence was handed down following events related to the protests in September 2025, which resulted in about a dozen deaths.

In addition to these two former high-ranking officials of the Rajoelina regime, the case involves other influential figures of the time, such as Maminiaina Ravatomanga, who is currently the subject of an arrest warrant in Mauritius, and the former Director General of the Civil Aviation of Madagascar (ACM), Gervais Damasy. Four companies are also implicated.

The defendants must answer to at least seven charges brought by the PAC, including undermining state security, abuse of office, corruption, money laundering, criminal conspiracy, forgery and use of forged documents, as well as usurpation of office.
