AIRPORT ACTIVITIES – Adema plans to modernize its services

The Aéroports de Madagascar (Adema) company is planning to modernize its services to meet the new demands of air transport. Through a program of retraining and renovations, Adema aims to upgrade its infrastructure and staff skills.

During a ceremony for the graduation of seventeen Aerodrome Flight Information Service (AFIS) agents, Adema Director General Jean Germain Andrianiaina announced plans to expand and renovate at least one of the ten major airports under its management. This initiative aims to accommodate long-haul and direct flights, bypassing the need to transit through Antananarivo.

Adema has already issued a call for expressions of interest for the expansion and redevelopment of passenger terminals in Toliara and Toamasina. Furthermore, the World Bank has granted $45 million for the first phase of modernization projects at three pilot airports: Toliara, Toamasina, and Taolagnaro.

Regarding human resources, seventeen control tower agents have completed advanced AFIS training at the National School of Aeronautics and Meteorology (ENEAM). These agents are crucial for flight safety, providing data on runway conditions, weather, and air traffic. Director General Andrianiaina noted that the company’s improved financial health has enabled these investments in training and new recruitment, ensuring better compliance with air safety and security standards.
