AMPANIHY – An albino woman murdered

The murder of a woman with albinism on the night of September 17 has caused deep distress in Ankilizato, in the Ampanihy district. This act of extreme violence has profoundly shocked the residents of the Ankilibe fokontany, in the Ankilizato commune.

According to information gathered, the 40-year-old victim was killed under atrocious circumstances. The fokonolona tracked the three men suspected of being the perpetrators of the crime, but their trail was lost in Andranolava and near the CISCO office in Ampanihy. No official arrests have been confirmed to date.

The victim’s family is also facing new difficulties since the tragedy. According to family members and the Association of People with Albinism in Madagascar, they were allegedly forced to pay money and hand over assets after the woman’s death: 1 million ariary, two zebu, three bags of rice, as well as 340,000 ariary for the ‘Dina’ (local customary law) and ‘report’ fees. The family also claims to be under pressure and threats on the ground and is calling on the authorities to ensure close monitoring of the case.

For its part, the association is calling for an in-depth and transparent investigation to be opened so that the truth can be established and those responsible can be punished.
