The Anosizato flyover construction project has entered its first phase. Since the initial ground-breaking on Friday evening, the China Geo-Engineering Corporation (CGC), which is in charge of the works, has been setting up its installation site near the bridge. Yesterday, workers began erecting a fence around the plot where the company’s machinery is already stationed.
“This fence will protect the machinery and equipment while clearing the space previously occupied by local merchants and residents,” a worker explained while installing wooden posts for the fence.
The local Malagasy workers on-site were unable to specify when the construction of the new bridge, which is part of the first lot of the project, will begin. “We only know that the future bridge will be built at this location,” another worker noted, pointing to the site where the new infrastructure will be erected (Editor’s note: to the right of the current bridge when heading towards the RN1 from the Anosizato roundabout).
The countdown has begun for the company. According to the Minister of Public Works, Dr. Sambilason Richard Rafefimanana, they have 24 months to complete this flyover. The project involves building two new bridges and demolishing the current one, constructing an interchange with ramps and slip roads, widening the RN1 to four lanes over 1.8 km between Anosizato and Antanimenakely, and rehabilitating 8.5 km of the RN58A connecting Ankadimbahoaka to Andohatapenaka.
