JIU-JITSU – 4th Madagascar Grand Open – Checkmat and Guerreros Dominate

Two clubs from the capital, Checkmat and Guerreros, confirmed their supremacy during the 4th edition of the Madagascar Grand Open, held this Saturday at the small hall of the Palais des Sports in Mahamasina.

Checkmat finished at the top of the medal table, securing seven gold and eight silver medals. The club claimed two titles in the advanced category. Two of its experienced fighters, Bryan, defeated Miaritra from Templar in the -66 kg final, and Nomasy triumphed over François from BJJ Esca in the -90 kg category.

In the women’s category, multiple national judo champion from FJA Antsirabe, Natacha Emiliame Razafindrakalo, competing for Checkmat this time, dominated her teammate Diary in the final duel. The club also shone in the children’s category thanks to victories by Lucie, Tsiandry, Nomeniavo, and Tia Majuel.

Meanwhile, the Guerreros club secured five gold and seven silver medals, taking second place in the medal standings. International podium regular Tafita defeated Frédérick from Checkmat in the -74 kg advanced category. The club also earned four titles in the children’s division, won by Idealy, Nanchel, Voady, and Fantôme. Tsinjo, from the One Tribe club, shone by achieving a double, winning gold in both the -83 kg advanced category and the absolute category. This national event brought together 140 jiu-jitsukas from about ten clubs.
