An operation aimed at arresting individuals transporting human remains escalated into a violent confrontation in Antanimenabaka, in the Andilamena district, between Wednesday night and Thursday morning. According to information provided by the Gendarmerie, they had been informed that three individuals were planning to sell human bones. The gendarmes arrived at the scene immediately, around 11:50 PM, and caught the three men carrying bags believed to contain human remains.
However, the suspects refused to surrender. They put up violent resistance and attacked the gendarmes with spears and axes, despite warnings and warning shots fired by the law enforcement officers. Faced with the emergency and the threat posed to them, the gendarmes were forced to open fire. Two of the three men were hit, while the third managed to escape. A gendarme was also wounded in the left thigh by a spear strike during the clash. He received medical treatment and his life is not in danger, according to the information provided.
