ELECTIONS – Electoral stakeholders urged to strengthen awareness on voter registration

The Independent National Electoral Commission (Ceni) is calling on all stakeholders involved in the electoral process to strengthen public awareness regarding voter registration. Thierry Rakotonarivo, President of the electoral management body, emphasized that beyond the Ceni, political parties, civil society organizations, and various national stakeholders share the responsibility of informing and explaining these procedures to the population.

Two weeks after the launch of the new voter registration operation, the Ceni reiterated that this mission does not fall solely on its services or the commissions in charge of voter census. Political parties, civil society, and other national actors are specifically invited to inform and sensitize the public about the operation, registration requirements, and the importance of this process.

The Ceni also encourages everyone to urge those around them to register on the electoral lists. Furthermore, the Commission highlighted a potential confusion among the public between biometric registration and voter registration, noting that these are two distinct operations. Having already completed a biometric census does not automatically exempt an individual from registering on the electoral lists. “These are two different operations in national life,” reminded Thierry Rakotonarivo, President of the Ceni.
