DIPLOMACY – Establishment of a Madagascar Embassy in Egypt Approved by Council of Ministers

Madagascar is strengthening its diplomatic relations with Egypt. The Council of Ministers this Tuesday officially approved the establishment of an Embassy of the Republic of Madagascar in Egypt. The opening of this new permanent diplomatic representation will allow Madagascar to have a direct presence in this North African region and thus strengthen its external diplomatic network. Until now, Madagascar’s diplomatic coverage in this region relied on representations located in other countries, with the associated logistical and geographical constraints.

This decision follows the momentum initiated during the official visit of the President of the Refoundation, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, to Egypt last July. Received by his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, the Malagasy head of state had expressed his desire to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

During this meeting, the Egyptian president welcomed Madagascar’s decision to consider opening a permanent diplomatic representation in Cairo. “We attach great importance to this initiative, which reflects a sincere desire to strengthen exchanges and permanent consultation between our two countries,” Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi had declared.

The creation of this embassy is expected to further institutionalize bilateral relations and facilitate the monitoring of cooperation files between Antananarivo and Cairo.
