The Toamasina Gendarmerie apprehended a network of Jirama cable thieves early this morning in Sarimasina on the RN2. These thefts have been a primary cause of recent power outages in Toamasina, compounding the existing energy shortages caused by damage to power generation stations. Seven individuals were arrested, including one active-duty gendarme stationed in Toamasina. The suspects were caught in the act while targeting the cables connecting Toamasina city center.
