Following a period of awareness-raising and a five-day grace period granted to motorists to remove non-compliant lights, authorities have moved to the enforcement phase. The General Directorate of Road Safety (DGSR) conducted an operation on the evening of Thursday, July 30, starting at 8:00 PM.
Led by Colonel Rija Alberto Rakotomampianina, head of the operations and technical road control service, the intervention was launched on National Roads 2 and 7. Officers identified several vehicles still equipped with non-compliant lighting devices, despite previous awareness campaigns and warnings issued to users.
A total of forty-five vehicles were fined for using lights that cause glare, potentially hindering other road users. The drivers involved were forced to remove these devices before being allowed to continue their journey, while the seized equipment was confiscated to prevent further use.
The General Directorate of Road Safety reminds the public that factory-standard vehicles are already equipped with lighting systems that meet current regulations. Colored lights or modified devices are not permitted if they do not comply with the law.
For their part, car dealers emphasize that approved equipment meets precise standards. They also noted that no authorization requests have been recorded for such devices, but they could assist motorists with the necessary procedures should a formal process be established.
Operations will continue on other road axes to ensure compliance with automotive lighting regulations and to enhance safety for all road users.
