Former Barea coach Romuald Rakotondrabe, known as Rôrô, has confirmed that there is nothing official regarding his transfer to the Sudanese club Al Merrikh SC. He asserts that he has not yet signed any contract.
The former Barea coach, who led the team to a silver medal at the 8th African Nations Championship (CHAN) in 2025 and a bronze medal in 2023, sought to clarify reports circulating on social media. Since late Wednesday, social media platforms had shared a post from Al Merrikh SC announcing his transfer to the Sudanese club, where two Barea players, Nicolas Randriamanampisoa and Feno Hasina Gilles Razafimaro, have been playing for nearly a year.
Reached by phone, Coach Rôrô stated: “I have not signed the contract yet. My agent is still here in Madagascar, and the conditions I require are still awaiting validation and confirmation.” He emphasized his desire for clarity to avoid a repeat of the situation he experienced with the Tanzanian club Young Africans SC.
The coach, who won gold at the 2023 Indian Ocean Island Games, did not deny that negotiations are ongoing but reiterated that “nothing is official yet.” He expressed enthusiasm for the potential international opportunity, which would involve managing the reserve team or the U23 group, as well as players returning from injury or underperforming in the first team.
Al Merrikh SC, a historic Sudanese club currently competing in the Rwanda Premier League, has a rich history, including 19 Sudanese league titles and 25 national cups. Coach Rôrô noted that his agent will not leave Madagascar until a final decision is made.
