The proposals and concerns of Malagasy youth are at the heart of the National Youth Consultation, which opened this Tuesday at the Ivato International Conference Center (CCI). For three days, nearly 400 representatives from the 24 regions are gathered to consolidate contributions made during regional consultations and to develop national conclusions aimed at informing youth-focused reforms.
This meeting marks the culmination of a consultation process conducted throughout the country during May and June 2026. These exchanges allowed young people to highlight the realities experienced in their localities, particularly regarding access to employment, training, entrepreneurship, and social inclusion, while formulating proposed solutions to the difficulties encountered. The national consultation aims to synthesize the aspirations of the Malagasy youth.
Key concerns highlighted include access to employment, improving the alignment between training and labor market needs, the development of entrepreneurship, and better social inclusion. “We have long known about the problems related to the world of work in Madagascar, particularly youth employment, with the gap between the training provided and the job offers available on the labor market,” emphasized Erico Randriamalala, a youth rights advocate. “It is essential to find sustainable solutions quickly,” he added.
Young entrepreneurs who participated in the regional consultations also shared their expectations regarding support, access to markets, and mechanisms to foster the creation and development of their activities.
Currently traveling abroad, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Alain Désiré Rasambany, participated via videoconference. He encouraged the participants to deepen their exchanges to reach national conclusions that reflect the expectations of Malagasy youth. According to the organizers, the results of this consultation will serve as a basis for reflections on reforms intended to address the needs expressed by young people through the various territorial consultations.
