Faced with concerns regarding reported disappearances in Antananarivo, schools are strengthening their vigilance as the new academic year approaches. In preschools, a child pick-up card system has been in place for several years. This measure allows for the identification of individuals authorized to collect students at dismissal time. However, school administrators indicate that they remain attentive to the evolution of the security situation in the capital.
Before the start of the school year in September, some institutions also plan to organize meetings with parents to reiterate safety guidelines and discuss potential measures to be adopted. “For the moment, we are maintaining the system already in place. We are also waiting to see how the situation in the country evolves before taking further steps if necessary,” explains a school official.
Regarding universities, measures vary by institution. Some have moved student dismissal times to 3:00 PM, while others have not yet made any particular changes to their organization. Institutions remain in an observation phase, prioritizing awareness and the maintenance of existing protocols for the time being.
