One week after the ultimatum issued by Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, President of the Refondation, Enelec has broken its silence. Accused by the Head of State of being responsible for the electricity problems that have been suffocating Antsiranana and Toamasina for months, the private supplier has announced a maintenance plan. “Since the President of the Refondation spoke out, we have accelerated our interventions,” the management acknowledged.
On the ground, the company claims to have shifted gears. Engines and critical parts, including crankshafts, have been transported to the sites. Specialized contractors have also arrived to reinforce local teams.
The private electricity supplier says it wants to stabilize the grid and reduce power outages. “The initial measures are already producing concrete results,” Enelec assures, without providing details. However, the operator refuses to take all the blame. It points to a glaring lack of cash flow linked to “several years of unpaid bills from Jirama,” a problem it claims to have reported several times. Despite the financial standoff, Enelec asserts that it has continued its operations so as “not to penalize the population” and reaffirms its commitment to gradually improving the quality of service.
