Breaking his silence, former President of the Republic Andry Rajoelina posted a message on his Facebook account yesterday. He addressed the growing anxiety affecting many Malagasy families. Drawing from a biblical verse, he spoke about the current state of the country, highlighting kidnappings, injustices, and violence. He stated that he is “deeply touched” by the situation, noting that too many children have lost their lives and too many households are now living in fear.
The observation is clear: today, many parents only breathe a sigh of relief when their children return home. He added that this fear is no longer limited to the youngest; young people and adults alike are living in daily insecurity.
Instead of calling for confrontation, he advocates for appeasement. He urged the Malagasy people not to be divided by “hatred” but rather to make room for “humanity and solidarity.” He concluded by offering his thoughts to grieving families and expressing the hope that one day, fear will give way to trust, and that everyone may live “in security and dignity.”
