Provisional leaders. The ‘Étoiles du Sud’ team, composed of Malagasy stars Yves Sedrick Rakotoarisoa and Jean François Daniel Rakotondrainibe (alias Zigle), alongside Senegalese pointer N’Diaye Fara, reclaimed the top spot after the fourth stage of the Masters de Pétanque in Saint-Étienne, held on Wednesday and Thursday.

The African selection fell in the final with a score of 3-13 against the team of Mickaël Bonetto, Christophe Sarrio, and Ludovic Montoro on Thursday evening at the Place de l’Hôtel de Ville in Saint-Étienne.

The Étoiles du Sud had previously eliminated the team of Zigler, Elie Benmergui, and Baudino in the semi-finals (13-6), while Bonetto and his teammates defeated the Doerr team (13-11). During the group stages on Wednesday evening, Yves’ team had already made a statement by defeating the ‘Dream Team’ of Philippe Suchaud, Philippe Quintais, and Henri Lacroix (13-2).

With this performance, the Étoiles du Sud reclaim first place in the standings, totaling 33 points after the fourth stage. The African selection previously won the first stage in Romans-sur-Isère in early June and reached the semi-finals in the second and third stages in Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie and Montluçon, respectively. The Bonetto team moves up to second place (31 points), while the Rocher team drops to third with 27 points. The fifth stage will take place on August 4th and 5th in Santa Susanna, Spain.
