Wilan Said Hasimbola stood on the podium at the African Cadet Judo Championships in Casablanca, Morocco. The young Malagasy judoka secured a bronze medal in the under-81 kg category on Thursday.
Success was not guaranteed from the start. Facing Algerian Anis Khodja in his opening match, Wilan Said suffered an initial defeat. However, it was precisely in the face of adversity that the young Malagasy fighter demonstrated his true character.
Far from being demoralized, he approached the repechage round with steely determination. After brilliantly winning his repechage bout against Chadian Djimotom Bemkel, Wilan Said Hasimbola sealed his fate in the final match for third place by authoritatively defeating Moroccan Rayan Nejjary.
This Friday, four other judokas will enter the competition in the junior category. Kevin Ralevazaha will compete in the under-66 kg class, Rickey Said in the under-90 kg class, Aina Rakotonandrasana in the under-57 kg class, and Alice Randrianjohany in the under-78 kg class.
