The new officials of the Special Delegation of the Mahajanga commune have introduced new reforms within the municipality. From now on, lucrative activities, particularly braderies (street markets) and karting sessions, will be permanently organized in dedicated communal spaces located in front of the Regional Directorate of Sports and in front of the Notre-Dame College, in the Mangarivotra fokontany.
This decision follows an incident that occurred last week in front of the Post Office in Mahajanga Be. The two organizers of these events decided to occupy the space at the same time and began setting up their equipment, which triggered a conflict.
To resolve the situation, the President of the Special Delegation of Mahajanga and his primary collaborator met with the two organizers to reach an agreement. It was initially agreed that the braderie would be moved to the communal space in front of the Regional Directorate of Youth and Sports, near the Manga fokontany.
However, the braderie organizers changed their minds and returned to the front of the Post Office. Faced with this situation, the commune decided to move the karting event in front of Notre-Dame to avoid any conflict and preserve public order.
Furthermore, the municipality has ruled that the space in front of the Post Office will no longer host braderie activities. This is to protect the municipal garden and existing infrastructure from potential damage caused by such events, in accordance with the 2020 decree defining the organization and use of this administrative zone.
