The exhibition “Iray Volan’ny Hosodoko” brings together 14 painters and 72 works at Ivokolo throughout the month of July.
Malagasy painting takes on a masculine tone at Ivokolo. As part of “Iray Volan’ny Hosodoko,” 14 male painters are presenting 72 works to the public from July 1st to 31st. The exhibition brings together artists with diverse backgrounds, ranging from emerging young talents and experienced painters to creators who are still little known to the public. It also features several renowned figures in the painting world, including Rodolphe, Jean Nirina, Mamie Randrimanampisoa, Fetra Rabarison, William Randrianohanana, George Rakotomanana, Benjamin Raharijaona, Petit Maître, and Rorh.
This edition highlights works inspired by Malagasy landscapes and daily life. Ranging in age from their twenties to their seventies, the artists include several participants from previous editions. The exhibition is also part of the celebrations for the bicentenary of painting in Madagascar.
Organized at Ivokolo, this edition complements the one hosted at La City Ivandry, which exclusively features female artists, with the goal of giving more visibility to women creators who are still underrepresented in the artistic scene. According to Clara Nantenaina Razafindratsimba, head of the art and culture popularization department: “The month of July was chosen as a high season to promote the visibility of the works and allow artists to sell them better.”
The project is supported by the OFNAC (National Office of Arts and Culture), which is solicited each year to accompany this artistic initiative. The Vovonan’ny Mpanao Hosodoko, which brings together painters, associations, and other sector actors, also issued a call for artists to participate in the exhibition.
Beyond the sale and visibility of the works, “Iray Volan’ny Hosodoko” seeks to raise public awareness of painting and encourage the next generation of artists. The diversity of the participants helps bridge the gap between generations. Consequently, many families come to discover this universe with their children. The initiative thus intends to awaken a love for painting in the youngest and encourage its integration into educational programs to foster new vocations.
