BACCALAUREATE 2026 – Candidates expelled from examination halls

Fraud and candidate substitution persist during the Baccalaureate examination. Strict measures have been taken against those caught in the act.

A candidate at an examination center in Antananarivo was expelled on Monday for attempted fraud. A source from the University of Antananarivo reported that the candidate was caught using a mobile phone during the test. This is not an isolated incident; according to the provisional report from the second day of exams, two other candidates—one in Mandoto and another in Mahabo Andoharanofotsy—were caught using mobile phones. Additionally, a smartwatch was seized from a candidate in Faratsiho.

Professor Angelo Raherinirina, Director General of Higher Education at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, stated that the report is not yet complete. He clarified that while mobile phones are strictly prohibited, mere possession does not lead to expulsion if the device is handed over to supervisors or stored away. Expulsion is reserved for those caught actively using devices to communicate with the outside world.

Further incidents were reported in Ambilobe, where two candidates were caught with cheat sheets, and in Tsiroanomandidy, where a case of candidate substitution was identified. Those caught in the act have been excluded from the exams, and their files have been referred to the Disciplinary Council (Codis) for further action.
