Cases of candidate substitution, attempted fraud, and a traffic accident involving students marked the first day of the 2026 Baccalaureate exams on Monday. The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research reported several incidents, noting that while no subject leaks occurred, violations led to immediate exclusions and legal proceedings.
Two cases of candidate substitution were identified in the examination centers of Bezaha and Ambilobe. Professor Angelo Raherinirina, Director General of Higher Education (DGES), stated that both the imposters and the original candidates will face prosecution. Furthermore, several students were caught with prohibited mobile phones, some hidden in unusual places, leading to their immediate disqualification. In Mahabo, a candidate was caught red-handed with study notes.
Regarding accidents, nine candidates from Antsirabe traveling to Miandrivazo were involved in a traffic accident; only one was able to take the exam, while the others required medical attention. In Antananarivo, another candidate was hospitalized after receiving initial first aid at the center.
Despite these issues, the Ministry described the day as generally calm. Professor Raherinirina reaffirmed the “zero tolerance” policy, emphasizing the commitment to maintaining the credibility of the diplomas. The Ministry also urged parents to ensure students do not bring phones to centers and to remain wary of fake exam papers circulating on social media, confirming that all official subjects remain secure.
