The 2026 baccalaureate exams have begun under high surveillance in Mahajanga. Authorities have deployed a significant security apparatus across the forty-one examination centers in the Boeny, Sofia, Melaky, and Betsiboka regions.
To ensure the integrity of the tests, local authorities, coordinated by the Joint Design Body (OMC) and in collaboration with various stakeholders, have secured all centers within the Mahajanga province. The first day of testing proceeded without incident in the ‘City of Flowers’.
A total of 26,300 candidates are registered for the 2026 session in Mahajanga, including 25,178 for general education and 1,122 for technical and vocational education. This marks an increase from the 24,773 candidates registered in the Boeny region in 2025.
The first subject, philosophy, began on schedule. At the Philibert Tsiranana High School, 47 out of 1,260 registered candidates were absent. Strict measures were enforced, with all prohibited items such as mobile phones and bags confiscated and stored securely to prevent fraud.
Local officials, including the Prefect of Mahajanga, the President of the University of Mahajanga, and the Director of the Baccalaureate Office, oversaw the official launch. The President of the University of Mahajanga emphasized the need for continued vigilance throughout the five-day examination period.
Notably, the oldest candidate is 66 years old, while the youngest are 14, taking their exams in Mandritsara and Mampikony.
