Zonal Competition. The Malagasy ITF (International Taekwondo Federation) Commission announced on Thursday a decision reached by several national associations during an international training session in Johannesburg: Madagascar will host the first edition of the Southern Africa Zone Taekwondo Cup. This regional competition will take place on November 8 in the Malagasy capital.
“In addition to Madagascar, three countries, namely Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and South Africa, have already expressed their interest. As it is a cup, the competition remains open to participation from other countries on the continent,” stated Maurice Rakotoarisoa, president of the Malagasy commission.
The program will feature combat events, or “matsugi,” and “tul” (kata). Having been in training since the end of 2025, the national pre-selection team consists of gold medalists from the Madagascar Open held in September last year. “The pre-selected athletes have been gathering during every school holiday. We will begin more intensive preparation for the final four months leading up to the event,” the official emphasized. He also mentioned that talent scouting will continue during regional championships.
The Alaotra-Mangoro regional summit took place on July 11 in Moramanga, and the Atsinanana summit was held on July 12 in Toamasina. The Boeny championship is scheduled for July 29, and the Analamanga championship for August 8. The Madagascar Championship will be held on August 29, and the National Cup will conclude the season in September.
