Following a highly competitive group stage, four teams are set to compete in the playoffs to secure the final two spots in the semifinals of the Madagascar Men’s First Division Rugby Union Championship. Two promising matches are scheduled for this Sunday at the Makis Stadium in Andohatapenaka: TF Anatihazo will face Uscar at noon, followed by a clash between the defending champion, FT Manjakaray, and US Ankadifotsy at 2:00 PM.
Crowned in 2025, FT Manjakaray has only one goal: to continue defending its trophy. A defeat would immediately end its reign and pave the way for a new champion.
“We are the defending champions of Madagascar. The pressure is on us. We have no room for error, because a defeat would mean losing our title,” admits Antonio Rabeherison, coach of FT Manjakaray.
These words perfectly reflect the responsibility weighing on the shoulders of the titleholders. The players of US Ankadifotsy see this confrontation as a unique opportunity to overturn the hierarchy. Meanwhile, the other playoff match between TF Anatihazo and Uscar promises to be equally unpredictable, as both teams fight for a place in the final four.
The winners of these playoffs will join the two teams already qualified for the semifinals: COSFA, the only undefeated team in the regular season, and the surprise package, Club Étoile d’Andranomanalina (CEA).
