Madagascar is seeking to improve youth employability through training, skills acquisition, and employment support.
The third edition of World Youth Skills Day (WYSD) is being held on July 15 and 16 at the QG Tanora in Ankorondrano, under the theme “Skills for a Common Future.” Organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, in partnership with the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) and several national and international partners, the event aims to strengthen young people’s skills to facilitate their professional integration and contribute to the country’s development.
In Madagascar, where young people represent nearly 70% of the population, access to employment remains a significant challenge. The lack of adapted training, insufficient professional experience, and the gap between qualifications and labor market needs are among the main obstacles to hiring. Faced with this situation, this edition of WYSD intends to promote skills development as a lever for employability and empowerment.
The Minister of Youth and Sports, Alain Désiré Rasambany, emphasized that many companies still offer few opportunities for young graduates to gain their first professional experience. According to him, skills are built gradually through practice and continuous learning. He encouraged companies to welcome more young people to allow them to develop their expertise.
The Minister also called on young people not to limit their ambitions to finding salaried employment, but to turn toward entrepreneurship. He recalled that business creation is an essential engine for job creation. In this perspective, the Ministry, in collaboration with the OIF, is implementing several programs aimed at training responsible young people capable of creating their own activities and passing on their skills to others in a spirit of shared values and solidarity.
On the occasion of this WYSD, the Minister invited technical and financial partners to further support programs dedicated to skills development, professional integration, and youth entrepreneurship. He also indicated that the reflections from ongoing national consultations propose several measures to facilitate young people’s access to employment and simplify administrative procedures, particularly in the field of investment.
For its part, the OIF representative for the Indian Ocean reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to youth. He recalled that the OIF operates in the fields of education, vocational training, and, increasingly, the professional integration of young people, which has become a priority for the organization.
