A ceremony with a farewell atmosphere. The French Ambassador to Madagascar, Arnaud Guillois, celebrated his final official reception for the French National Day this Tuesday, ahead of the conclusion of his mandate. The ceremony was attended by a significant delegation from the Malagasy government, led by the Prime Minister and the President of the National Assembly, illustrating the depth of relations between the two countries.
Received by the President of the Refondation, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, on the eve of the reception, the diplomat reviewed his mission, which he noted was marked by constant political dialogue between Antananarivo and Paris. “While diplomatic discussions can sometimes be demanding, the dialogue has never been broken,” he stated, recalling the regular exchanges between the authorities of both countries, notably the official visit of the Malagasy President to Paris last February and his participation in the Africa-France Summit held in Nairobi in May.
Arnaud Guillois also highlighted the actions carried out within the framework of bilateral cooperation, particularly in the fields of youth, higher education, and health. He indicated that he had ensured French support was adapted to the needs expressed by Madagascar, while expressing confidence in the continuation of these programs after his departure.
“All these programs naturally need to be accepted, which they are, and to be extended, which I have no doubt they will be,” he declared, reaffirming France’s desire to accompany Madagascar on the path of sustainable growth, development, and the consolidation of democracy.
Finally, the diplomat emphasized that Franco-Malagasy relations are based as much on institutional ties as on human and geographical proximity. He recalled that the two countries share a neighborhood in the Indian Ocean through the French territories of Reunion and Mayotte, in addition to a shared history that continues to fuel their cooperation.
