TENNIS – ITF U14 Circuit – Two Malagasy players to compete in Harare

Madagascar’s tennis scene is making a significant move on the African U14 circuit. Young players Moïse Rafanoharantsoa and Areyanna Raharinosy will depart on July 17 for Harare, Zimbabwe, to participate in two stages of the U14 African circuit tournaments, scheduled from July 19 to 26. The goal is crucial: to accumulate enough points in the continental rankings to secure a spot in the African U14 Hard Court Championships, slated for September.

This mission relies heavily on family support. The parents of both players have chosen to fully fund the trip, covering airfare, visas, as well as mission expenses and the fees for coach Dina Razafimahatratra to accompany the two young talents. This substantial investment reflects a commitment to providing these rising stars with the opportunity to compete against the continental elite.

Moïse approaches this tour with high ambitions. Currently ranked 29th in the African U14 standings, he distinguished himself in June during two tournaments held in Mauritius. He is now aiming for a spot in the African top 16, which would guarantee direct qualification for the African Championships.

For Areyanna Raharinosy, this tour represents another step in her development. Although she still competes in the U12 category, the young Malagasy player already holds the 63rd position in the African U14 rankings. Following an encouraging first international experience, she will look to continue her progress against more experienced opponents.

Preparation has entered its final stretch. “To approach these events in the best conditions, the two young players are intensifying their training on the hard courts of Paon d’Or, on the Ivato road,” notes coach Dina Razafimahatratra. The choice of surface is strategic, allowing the players to refine their skills ahead of the continental challenge.

In Zimbabwe, Moïse Rafanoharantsoa and Areyanna Raharinosy will not just be playing matches; they will be striving to reach a new milestone in their young careers and bring Malagasy tennis closer to a notable presence at the upcoming African Championships.
