Preparation is underway. The Malagasy capital will host the first edition of the CAVB Zone 7 U18 African Championship from August 5th to 10th. The pre-selected athletes have only one month left to prepare, with the final training camp starting this week in the capital. The initial camp took place in early April, shortly after the Madagascar U19 Cup at the Palais des Sports in Mahamasina. The pre-selection consists primarily of players from Analamanga.
A second training session and assessment test were held from Friday to Sunday at the Ampisikiny gymnasium in Mahajanga, led by National Technical Director Hasimbola Famonjena Raoelison and coach Tiana Randriamisason. Twenty-three pre-selected athletes, including sixteen girls and seven boys, participated in the three-day sessions. “I have proposed six candidates to the National Technical Director, five girls and one boy, who could join the final squad,” noted coach Tiana Randriamisason. “We are now awaiting the arrival of players from other regions. The final camp is scheduled to begin today,” the head technician specified.
Six islands from the region are expected to participate in this youth summit. The Madagascar Volleyball Federation plans to field two women’s teams and one men’s team to defend the national colors.
