Coach Franck Rajaonarisamba and his club, CFFA, are preparing for the African Champions League. The coach has already won two titles with AS Adema (2006-10) and Fosa Juniors FC (2017-23).
Asked about the adjustments made during the championship to win the title:
At the beginning of my arrival, we faced difficulties during the conference phase. The club had just recruited several players from Ajesaia, Fosa Juniors FC, and AS Fanalamanga. Consequently, the group lacked cohesion on the pitch. We put much more effort into improving the game. I brought my personal touch and my philosophy, gained from numerous training sessions I have benefited from. We implemented a more physical style of play, based on greater combativeness, while strengthening technical and tactical aspects.
What obstacles prevent Malagasy clubs from going beyond the first round?
Clubs and players in the country play significantly fewer matches than their African counterparts. We play about twenty matches here, while other African clubs play double that amount. Thus, Malagasy players do not have the proper physical condition required to face African teams. We should double or triple our efforts in strengthening physical conditioning. We aim to reach at least the second round, as it has been at least 10 years since a Malagasy club reached that stage.
How do you find your current players, by department?
We have good elements in the attacking line. Our attacking trio of Gregas, Tahina, and Cristiano is still young. While they lack experience, they are very dynamic and fast in execution. We also have good elements in the midfield. Our three defenders are experienced, but they are over 30 and sometimes lack liveliness. As for the goalkeeping department, we need reinforcement because we only have two, Mika and Goal Kely.
What will the one-month preparation period be devoted to?
For now, we are fully focused on the Madagascar Cup, which follows the championship. We will try to go as far as possible in this competition. After three months of intense competition, the players will benefit from about ten days of well-deserved rest. We will then resume preparation. We will have more than a month to refine everything, as the first-round matches are scheduled for early September.
