The Amoron’Akona bus terminal welcomed its first passengers yesterday. In this vast 4,500 m² infrastructure, a few passengers boarded for departures to various regional and national destinations, particularly along the eastern and southern routes. Vassia, originally from Fianarantsoa but a student in Antananarivo, was among the first users of the new terminal. “Granted, the station is a bit further from my home compared to the one at Fasan’ny Karana, but I chose to come here because, over there, the touts make transport fares more expensive during the holiday season. Plus, it is spacious here, and away from the chaos of Fasan’ny Karana,” she commented.
This first day was marked by a low turnout of travelers.
“We only recorded eight bookings for this afternoon’s departure. Most of our clients have booked for buses leaving from the Maki bus terminal. Its location is more accessible for them,” says Evah, a ticket clerk for the Kofimanga cooperative.
Some vehicles left the boarding station with few passengers. “To avoid making travelers wait for hours, we departed even though the vehicle was not full. We will continue to the Ampasampito bus terminal, where we hope to find more passengers to fill the remaining seats,” indicates Tahiana, a carrier on the Antananarivo-Moramanga line. Some cooperatives, however, claim to have filled their seats.
The first day was also marked by the absence of several cooperatives at the site. Only a few ticket counters were open yesterday. “This does not mean a withdrawal. It is just that the seats for our vehicles are already fully booked until June 26, and most of the reservations are focused on departures from the Maki or Fasan’ny Karana terminals,” a carrier suggests.
The site manager remains optimistic. “For a first day, the turnout is quite encouraging,” says Andry Michel Razafindraibe, manager of the Amoron’Akona bus terminal. To attract even more passengers to this site, the Ministry of Transport and Meteorology announced the deployment of several transport options to serve this hub.
