Following an elective general assembly, Tanteliarimiza Rakotomalala, founder of the agency Becom, has been elected to lead the Women Entrepreneurs of the Analamanga region. This marks a milestone for someone who has always defined herself primarily as an entrepreneur. “In accepting this responsibility, I fully grasp the magnitude of the task ahead. It is a firm commitment to a community of women who undertake, create, innovate, take risks, and contribute every day to moving our economy forward,” the Becom founder stated on her social media channels.
Tanteliarimiza Rakotomalala will lead the women entrepreneurs of Analamanga until 2028. She succeeds Sandy Randria De Tsararay, who served as president of the FEA from 2024 to 2026.
Rakotomalala’s ambitions were made clear from the outset: “To create more opportunities, accelerate more businesses, and foster the emergence of more prosperous, influential, and inspiring women entrepreneurs capable of becoming the economic champions of tomorrow,” she announced.
These ambitions reflect the struggles of an entire career for Rakotomalala, who has worked to push boundaries in female entrepreneurship. In recent years, both in Madagascar and across the globe, female entrepreneurship has experienced spectacular growth.
However, female entrepreneurship still faces numerous challenges. According to the World Economic Forum, startups and SMEs led by women secure only 2% of global funding. In Africa, the figures are more nuanced; it is the continent with the highest rate of female entrepreneurship in the world, with one in four women (26%) launching or running a business. Yet, women face an estimated $42 billion financing gap due to institutional and social barriers.
According to the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report, 21.6% of Malagasy companies are majority-owned by women, and 28.2% are managed by women. Tanteliarimiza Rakotomalala intends to change the landscape in Madagascar.
