CEPE 2026: Parents cause disruption at Lycée Rabearivelo

A large influx of parents marked the start of the CEPE examinations yesterday morning at the Lycée Jean-Joseph Rabearivelo in Analakely. Their presence momentarily disrupted the organization of the examination center.

From the early hours of the morning, Lycée Jean-Joseph Rabearivelo (JJR) in Analakely became the scene of significant congestion as the Certificat d’Études Primaires Élémentaires (CEPE) examinations began. At this capital city exam center, many parents accompanied their children inside the establishment, causing temporary overcrowding in the courtyard and on the staircases leading to the classrooms.

Anxious to support their children during this first national exam, several parents insisted on walking them to their rooms or verifying they were properly settled before departing. This influx complicated the movement of candidates and staff for part of the morning.

Some pushing and shoving were observed on the stairs as students attempted to reach their exam rooms. Center officials had to intervene to restore order and ensure the smooth conduct of the proceedings.

A Recurring Situation

On-site, emotions were running high. “It’s his first official exam. I just wanted to make sure he was settled before leaving,” testified Lyliane, a mother of one candidate. Another parent explained he had accompanied his daughter to the door of the room to reassure her. “She was a bit worried this morning. I wanted to give her confidence before the start of the tests,” he explained.

Despite these moments of confusion, the exams began on time. “We started unpacking the exam papers at 6:00 a.m. Despite a few minor incidents, the children were able to take their exams under good conditions. Every year, we see the same phenomenon. Parents are often more stressed than the candidates themselves. Some want to stay in front of the rooms, others want to accompany their children to the very end. It requires a certain level of organization,” indicated Lalaina Ramananantony, head of the Antananarivo Ville School District (CISCO).

The Minister of National Education, Sendra Nirina Rajaonarison, reiterated that the CEPE is a significant milestone in a student’s academic journey. According to her, the situation observed at Lycée Rabearivelo primarily reflects the anxiety and emotion of families facing this first national examination.

Once the candidates were settled, calm gradually returned to the school grounds. Outside, however, several parents remained in front of the gate for some time. “I told myself I had to stay a little while. It’s an important day for my child,” confided Daniel, father of a candidate.
