Traffic in the capital is becoming increasingly complicated. Since the launch of the Antananarivo Integrated Sanitation Project (PIAA2), the closure of several road axes and the detours imposed on motorists have exacerbated traffic jams. Daily commutes are taking longer as users struggle with modified routes.
On the affected axes, the diversion of traffic to detour routes is further slowing down circulation. Vehicles are concentrated on already busy routes, complicating travel, especially for public transport. For bus drivers, these slowdowns directly impact travel times.
“We were already used to traffic jams. It used to take us two hours to reach Analamahitsy, but since the start of the work, the situation has worsened. And this is happening as the holidays approach,” explains Hajafeno, a bus driver.
Passengers are also suffering the consequences of this difficult traffic. Journeys are getting longer and travel conditions are deteriorating, especially when vehicles are already crowded. “The traffic jams are really difficult. Passengers are also packed into the vehicles,” testifies Aimée Rasolonantenaina, a pedestrian.
