MEDIA – RFI rewards two journalists

Nadia Razafimahatratry and Yves Ramarosandratana have won the 13th Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon Scholarship. They will undergo a four-week training program in Paris in 2027.

The 13th Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon Scholarship has rewarded two Malagasy media professionals. Nadia Razafimahatratry, a journalist at the Regional Directorate of Communication and Culture in the Itasy region, and Yves Ramarosandratana, a technician at Radio FAFI in Tsiroanomandidy, were named the winners of the 2026 edition. Their names were announced yesterday during a ceremony held at the French Institute of Antananarivo. Each will receive a four-week training course in Paris, fully funded by Radio France Internationale (RFI), during the first quarter of 2027.

34-year-old Nadia Razafimahatratry convinced the jury with her report titled “The closed doors of domestic violence in Madagascar.” Her work gives a voice to victims through testimonies collected in a difficult neighborhood of the capital. The jury particularly praised the courage of this investigation into a still-taboo subject, as well as the quality of her writing.

For his part, 32-year-old Yves Ramarosandratana distinguished himself with his audio piece “Blacksmith, the metal sculptor.” A technician at Radio FAFI and an electronics engineer specializing in multimedia production, he was rewarded for the quality of his sound recording, mixing, and the sound construction of his report.

Prior to the selection of the winners, ten candidates—five journalists and five technicians—participated in two weeks of training workshops at the premises of the Office of Public Radio and Television of Madagascar (ORTM), a partner of this edition. The competition was open to Malagasy professionals who have been active for at least two years and are under 35 years old.

The workshops were supervised by Rachel Locatelli, head of training at RFI, and Chantal Lorho, deputy editor-in-chief of the station, with remote participation from Grégory Genevrier, a journalist at RFI’s Info-Vérif unit. At the end of this stage, the journalist candidates produced a report on the theme “Dialogue and tolerance,” while the technicians produced an entirely audio piece centered on craftsmanship and artisanal trades in Madagascar.

Furthermore, the Association of Friends of Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon distinguished two other candidates by offering them professional recording equipment. They are Marie Randriantsoalaza, a technician at Radio Tsiry, and Diary Ranaivoson, a journalist at the NGO Studio Sifaka.
