The Analamarà fokontany, located in the rural commune of Ankilizato, in the Ampanihy West district, lacks any official school. Faced with this situation, the residents of this locality, which has about two hundred people, took the initiative to build one following awareness campaigns led by the Child Rights Protection Committee (KOMIZA). Established in nineteen communes of Ampanihy West, this committee brings together notable figures, teachers, and influential women within the fokontany, working with the Ministry of Population and Solidarity and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, in collaboration with UNICEF, to promote children’s rights.
“After being made aware of the importance of a child’s right to education, we deployed the means available locally. We built this school using local materials and hastily trained a teacher who only has a primary school certificate (CEPE), but at least knows how to read and write. We have had a primary school since last January,” explains Remamoha, a member of the KOMIZA committee.
With wooden branches for walls, pieces of wood to sit on the ground, no school supplies for the children, and all grade levels combined, the conditions are dire. “It is already a very big thing for us. We will continue the process so that our efforts are considered and that we can benefit from a real school with qualified teachers,” adds Remamoha.
The fokontany is located about sixty kilometers from the district capital of Ampanihy. Access is difficult, but the residents aspire to new hope with the brand-new small school. There is still a long way to go.
