AKANY AVOKO – Solidarity strengthens child support

Solidarity goes beyond material donations; it is rooted in presence, active listening, and supporting children throughout their life journeys. On October 28, at the Akany Avoko center in Ambohidratrimo, a joint initiative by DHL and the Madagascar Food Bank (BAM) highlighted the importance of collective commitment to vulnerable children.

Beyond daily necessities, these children require a family-like environment and sustainable support. “This is not just a place for orphans; it is also a family,” emphasizes Hanta Randrianarimalala, director of Akany Avoko Ambohidratrimo. The institution welcomes children and supports their development, aiming to provide them with future prospects.

Donations included rice, yogurt, sanitary napkins, and food products tailored to the children’s needs. For Amadou Diabaté, Managing Director of DHL, this action is a matter of shared responsibility. “Being human means being responsible for what happens today, and we must all act together,” he stated, noting that solidarity can take many forms depending on individual resources.

Marion Thabard, a 23-year-old French volunteer, returned to Madagascar to deliver donations and spend time with the children. Following an initial experience in March 2025, she returned with clothing, diapers, skincare products, and wipes, emphasizing the importance of providing affection and time.

Support extends beyond the institution’s walls. According to the director, Akany Avoko also helps young people pursue their paths externally, including job hunting, obtaining diplomas, and learning financial management. This approach aims to foster their autonomy and social integration. Former residents now work in various fields, including healthcare, journalism, and local government.

While solidarity initiatives provide immediate relief, significant needs remain. The challenge is to maintain long-term support so that every child can grow up in a secure environment and build their future. The mobilization of partners, volunteers, and society is essential to ensure these children do not face difficulties alone.
