Ethical and Sustainable Fashion: Finalists Meet the Creators

Exchanges at the heart of creation. Understanding the behind-the-scenes of responsible fashion, from material selection to manufacturing techniques: this is the goal of the meetings organized by the French Institute of Madagascar (IFM) as part of the ‘Ethical and Sustainable Fashion’ event. Today, the six finalists will have the opportunity to interact individually with the creators to better understand their sources of inspiration, working methods, and the expertise involved in crafting their pieces.

These meetings follow the first fashion show held on October 16 at the Salle de l’Horloge of the Café de la Gare, where thirteen designers from previous editions showcased their work. A pop-up exhibition is also being held at the IFM premises, allowing the public to discover the creations and learn more about the artistic and technical choices of their authors.

Silk, linen, wool, and cotton are at the center of these discussions. Participants will deepen their knowledge of the properties of these four natural textile materials while discovering the creators’ inspirations and the manufacturing processes favored in an eco-responsible approach. Beyond the exhibited garments, the initiative highlights the importance of craftsmanship and the reflection that accompanies each creation.

Six finalists focusing on four materials. The finalists distinguish themselves through their textile choices. Ida Rakotomanga works with silk, while Rojo Raoilijaona and Franck Andrianjanahary have opted for linen. Elissah Hajarison explores wool, while Jaël Otonia and Rijanandrianina Randriantsitohaina favor cotton. Through their creations, these six designers offer different visions of a fashion that combines creativity, identity, and environmental responsibility.

A fashion show to conclude the meetings. On Friday, October 30, starting at 7:00 PM, at the IFM in Analakely, the six finalists will present their creations during a new fashion show. The evening will be marked by the presentation of the ‘Cape d’honneur’ (Cape of Honor), an award recognizing the journey and commitment of a designer to ethical fashion. The winner may also have the opportunity to further their career in the world of fashion in France in 2027.
