The Sporting Club de Besarety (SCB), a multiple-time Madagascar champion, and FT Manjakaray (FTM) are set to face off in the grand final of the Madagascar Women’s First Division Rugby XV Championship this Sunday at 1:00 PM at the Makis Stadium in Andohatapenaka. Between the experience of the champions and the determination of their opponents, the duel promises an intense confrontation for the national title.
Malagasy women’s rugby is preparing for a major event of the season with the SCB-FTM showdown. Accustomed to the top, the Sporting Club de Besarety approaches this final with the status of a national benchmark. Having been crowned multiple times, the club has built a reputation as a formidable team, driven by its experience in big matches and its ability to manage decisive moments.
Opposite SCB, FT Manjakaray intends to play its cards fully. Regularly facing the players from Besarety, the FTM rugbywomen are well aware of the demands imposed by their opponents. Their goal will be to challenge the dominance of the defending champion.
Previous encounters between the two teams testify to the rivalry between the clubs. In March 2025, during the national championship semi-final, Besarety defeated Manjakaray with a score of 29-23. A match during which FTM had started well before yielding to the experience of its opponent. In April 2026, the two teams met again during the eighth day of the championship. After a particularly contested match, SCB won 31-25, after having been behind several times.
Manjakaray had notably taken the lead at 25-24 in the second half, before Besarety made the difference in the final minutes. In December 2024, SCB also largely dominated FTM, 63-21, during the championship phase.
These results place Besarety in a favorable position historically, without guaranteeing the outcome of this final. In a high-stakes match, pressure management, discipline, and capitalizing on opportunities could tip the scales. For SCB, the goal is to confirm its supremacy and add a new title to its record. For FTM, this final represents an opportunity to defy the odds and upset the hierarchy.
“We are ready to seek victory and we will try to take down the defending champion on Sunday,” says Delphine Sarindra Raharimalala, an FT Manjakaray player. “The pressure is on our side, but it is an extra motivation to show that we are up to the task,” says Oliviane Yvanah Andriantsilavina, a rugbywoman from Besarety.
